Mobile Phone Use / Advertising 1999

Using three monitors Laura Horelli visually compares the advertising and everyday use of mobile phones in the streets of Milan, Frankfurt and Tokyo. The monitors were placed in round, see-through spaces, which attempt to present the personal space or the bubble a mobile phone user creates around him/her when performing a private activity in public. The window of the gallery functioned as a fourth screen, often framing mobile phone users in real time.

The video installation is accompanied by the audio piece Street Interviews / Helsinki and the posters Internet and Newspaper Excerpts.
